While Shutterfly is an affordable option for ordering photo prints, up until recently there wasn’t a way to export your photos to your computer, or anywhere else for that matter. Shutterfly launched a completely revamped and much more user-friendly interface that makes it easier to share your photos with others, to create new albums, and more importantly, it makes it much easier to download your photos.

How to Mass Download All of Your Shutterfly Photos

Once you have access to the revamped Shutterfly interface, you can view all your photos by going to the Shutterfly website and navigating to My Photos. Once there, you can view your entire library of photos, or you can view specific albums you’ve created.

Your entire library is divided by date, so each month and each specific date has a button next to it with a checkmark and the number of photos in that collection.

  1. If you want to download your entire library, click each of those buttons to select all the images associated with each month. You can also be more selective, choosing to download images from a specific date or even just click the images themselves you want to download.
  2. Once you’ve made your selection, in the menu that appeared at the top, click the Download button.
  3. You’ll see a message letting you know that you’ll receive an email when your images are ready for download.
  4. That email will contain a link to a zip file that allows you to download all the images you selected with one click.

If you don’t have access to the new Shutterfly just yet, you can use the Chrome extension Shutterfly Exporter, but will have to create a Shutterfly Share Site first in order for the extension to work. It also is not the most user friendly method for bulk downloads as you have to manually click save on each dialog box that opens up when downloading your photos.

I was wanting to download all my photos back to my Mac so they would be in my cloud and auto organized by date.... unfortunately when I downloaded several hundred of pictures, they were all dated with the current date instead of the original date of creation.... so frustrating!!! Has anyone experienced this and possibly found a way around it?

    • Download a program called Exifer, I got it from cnet's download site, it can bulk change the file date on all of your photos back to the original-photo-taken-date (as long as that info hasn't been stripped off the file by some other application).
      It worked great for me.

How to select multiple pictures in Google Photos

There are several ways to select multiple photos and videos from your Google Photos library.

How to select several consecutive images

  1. You can hover over the first date, a check mark appears to select photos of that date
    Or you can select the first image
    1. Hover over the first picture
    2. Click the white circle with check mark at the top-left corner of the photo
      The circle will turn blue with a white check mark
  2. Scroll down, for example using the mouse wheel, arrows or Page Down keys, but not more than a few 100 thumbs.
  3. Hold the Shift key and hover with the mouse over a thumbnail. When the thumbnails turn blue you can click. Now all pictures between the first and the last selected picture are selected.
  4. When you go too far and the thumbs do not turn blue, you must scroll back, select one pic after the already selected ones, and continue. In order to go faster you can display more thumbs on a page by using Ctrl-. I managed to select all my photos (30.000) in about 15 minutes, for counting purposes. But note that some actions like downloading are limited to 500.
  5. Displayed in the top left corner (in the white bar) is the number of photos that is selected. Click X to deselect all.
  6. There is no button to 'select all'; Ctrl+A will not select all. Please give feedback to Google to request a way to select all photos with one click.

How to select several pictures that are not consecutive

  1. Select the first image:
    1. Hover over the first picture

  2. Click anywhere on another image to select it
    Click again anywhere on a selected image to deselect
  3. To select other photos not visible on the screen, you can
    1. Scroll with the mouse
    2. Move the slider on the right
    3. Click into the timeline
  4. Displayed in the top left corner (in the white bar) is the number of photos that were selected.
    Click X to deselect all.

How to select all photos grouped together under a specific date

  1. Hover the mouse over the date that appears above a set of photos
  2. Click the white circle at the top-left corner
  3. Displayed in the top left corner is the number of photos that were selected

How to select pictures that were recently uploaded or added

  1. Click into the search box at the top of the Google Photos library
  2. Scroll down to the first 'Show More' and click it
  3. Click 'Recently Added': https://photos.google.com/search/_tra_
  4. The library will now be sorted by the date the photos were added to Google Photos
  5. Use any of the above selection methods
